Employment

The passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in 1990 opened new opportunities for persons with intellectual disabilities, especially in the area of employment addressed specifically by Title I of the act.  The Kennedy Foundation previously sponsored a major initiative designed to lead widespread employment of persons with intellectual disabilities in essentially all types of jobs.  For current resources look at the State Employment Leadership Network  http://www.seln.org/ or the VCU Center on Work Supports http://www.worksupport.com/
